Callen from AE invited to perform with Jimmy Nevis!

Callen will be performing with Jimmy Nevis at his “No Regrets” show on 20 and 21 September at the Baxter Theatre in Rondebosch. Rehearsals have sounded awesome and we’re really excited that Jimmy invited Callen from Acoustic Element to join him on stage. You can expect some more Jimmy Nevis covers from Acoustic Element after the concert, for sure!

For those going to the show, we hope that you have an awesome time  – we guarantee it is going to blow your mind!

Performing with Auriol Hays - such an amazing experience!

Performing with the talented Ms Auriol Hays was such an honour and the event was loads of fun! She is truly an inspirational woman who has opened our eyes to new sounds and ways of performing our genre. This isn’t exactly surprising given her resume.

Auriol is a SAMA nominee for her debut album ‘Behind Closed Doors’ which was selected as one of the Sunday Times Top Twenty Albums of 2009. Voice of America Online described the follow up album ‘Anima Sola’ – Call it love as a “cascading blend of genres that include soul, jazz, and blues, interpreted by one of the strongest voices to emerge on the South African music scene in many years”.

All we can say is that you have to see it to believe it! This woman’s technique is something else.
Also, note in that incredible bio there was no mention of ‘pop’. So of course… That’s where we came in! So we got her to do (and learn the words) to one of our personal favourites, Titanium by David Guetta. It sounded phenomenal! We slowed it down and did an acoustic version as well. We will upload video footage of this performance soon.
A big thanks to Auriol and her manager, Ross, for their amazing hospitality. We look forward to working with you guys in the future.

Catch us at the City Bowl Market this October!

The City Bowl Market (CBM) is an independent, quality and sustainable market rooted in the local community. Its mouth-watering foods include bagels, Indian cuisine, sushi, breakfast rolls, local beer, and confectionery for the sweet-toothed individuals and much much more!
After being spotted performing at the Fashion Market, we were invited to play at the CBM and we’ve been part of the entertainment at the market for just over a year now.  We will next be performing at the market on Saturday 19th October from 10:30am – 1:30pm and we're really looking forward to it. The CBM is an extremely vibey market with a fantastic atmosphere, interesting characters and tasty organic foods.

Opening hours: Thursdays 4:30pm – 8:30pm and Saturdays 9am – 2pm

Frequently Asked Questions

In 2010 Callen Petersen and I, Jody Abel, arrived on the entertainment scene. We’ve been at it for few years now and are fortunate to have performed at a number of corporate functions, weddings and other social events. We tend to frequent various Cape Town wine routes, as this is where most of our gigs take place. Of course, we’re not complaining, WINE route… Need we say more?
Going forward, we plan to take a camera along with us to these gigs, that way we can post pictures of these stunning venues.  We may comment on the food from time to time – just because we can.

We’ve taken the liberty of answered a few of FAQs. Although flattering these questions are sometimes well, rather annoying. You’ll see why!

Q: Do you guys have a CD?
A: No,  we don't have one yet.

Q: How much do you charge for a gig?
A: A lot, if you're asking, you can’t afford us!!

Q: Do you guys have a drummer or a singer?
A: Do you see a drummer or a singer?

Q: Can you take off your clothes while playing?
A: Well… Um... I suggest you contact Mavericks at 021…

We recently signed with Lee Saaiman and are officially represented by Stereotype Records. This is an extremely exciting chapter in our music careers and we look forward to future collaborating with various South African artists.

Hopefully in a few months’ time we’ll be able to answer the first FAQ differently:

Q: Do you guys have a CD?
A: Yes! Go check it out!

The purpose of this blog is merely to document some of the amazing experiences we've had. As such, we like to think of this blogspot as an Acoustic Element online diary. If there are spelling errors, grammatical errors, faults in the sentence structure – please forgive us. Copy writing is not particularly our forte. We play music. We're very good at it.
We're at a very interesting stage of our careers. Callen works hard in his 9-5 fashion industry job and I keep myself busy at varsity and at my part-time communications job. Fortunately,  the gigs are flowing in. The only issue is that they seem to crop up at times that don't always suit our busy schedules. So unfortunately we find ourselves turning many of them down. Although it's disappointing at times, we're quite honoured to be able to say that we're in demand!
